The haus am ostfriedhof is opened

A facility run by the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising for the whole city

In the presence of Cardinal Marx, the Archdiocese’s ‘flagship project’ – known as the ‘Bereavement Pastoral Centre at the Ostfriedhof’ – is being inaugurated. The building at the Ostfriedhof is situated directly at the “crossing point for people”, on the boundary between the cemetery and the city, the cemetery wall. A light-filled new building serving as a communicative place of encounter and hospitality.

The facility aims to be an open house for the entire urban community, offering a wide range of services, including spaces for mourning, support, conversation and farewells. Inclusive catering, bereavement counselling, funeral services, training and cultural events come together here within a distinctive architectural setting, inviting people to visit. The light art by Prof. Barbara Fuchs symbolically connects all levels of the building in a central location and is regarded as its heart.

Brand development, corporate identity, visual communication and digital remembrance were created by our agency and developed in close consultation with the client and the artist. The idea, concept and project management were in the hands of Ulrich Keller, Advisor for Bereavement and Trauma Pastoral Care at the Archdiocesan Ordinariate. The architectural firm Lehmann, Tabillion & Castorph, Munich, created a building designed to foster a sense of community and security, carefully integrated into the overall spatial structure of the ‘Ost’ monument.
