In the presence of Cardinal Marx, the “lighthouse project” of the archdiocese, which was created under the project title “Bereavement Pastoral Center at the Eastern Cemetery”, is inaugurated. The haus am ostfriedhof is located directly at the site of the “transition of people”, on the border between the cemetery and the city, the cemetery wall. A light-flooded new building as a communicative place of encounter and hospitality.
The facility aims to be an open house for the entire urban community with a wide range of services, for spaces of mourning, its accompaniment, conversation and farewell. Inclusive catering, bereavement counseling, mourning ceremonies, training and cultural events come together here in special architecture and invite people in. The light art by Prof. Barbara Fuchs symbolically connects all levels of the building at a central location and is seen as its heart.
Brand development, corporate identity, visual communication and digital commemoration originate from our office and were developed in close cooperation with the client and the artist. The idea, concept and project responsibility were in the hands of Ulrich Keller, consultant for pastoral care for mourners and trauma pastoral care at the Archbishop’s Ordinariate. The architectural firm Lehmann, Tabillion & Castorph, Munich, created a building for the experience of community and security, carefully integrated into the overall spatial structure of the “Ostfriedhof” monument.
