Reopening Archaeological State Collection Munich

Invite them on an archaeological adventure. Rediscover history.

The State Archaeological Collection in Munich celebrated the reopening of its museum in April 2024. The striking Corten steel-clad building was extensively renovated and remodelled. We designed the campaign with posters, advertisements and social media posts for the reopening, as well as redesigning the visual identity and planning the signage.

The key visual of the campaign focuses on the ‘adventure of archaeology’ – gaining new insights through discovery, collection, classification, reconstruction and research. It shows an altered photo of a Roman horseman's mask, one of the museum's masterpieces. The design of the building and its exhibition rooms, which date back to the 1970s, is playfully referenced: a modular façade and building volume organised in a square grid.

The museum visit is promoted across various touchpoints with reference to the characteristics of the architecture and archaeological research work with an increasingly digital focus. The human face conveys an emotional approach to the history of human development, which is the basis for understanding today's society.
