house at the eastern cemetery
A facility of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising for the entire city.
In the presence of Cardinal Marx, the Archdiocese's ‘flagship project’ will be inaugurated, which was developed under the project title ‘Trauerpastorales Zentrum am Ostfriedhof’ (Pastoral Care Centre at the East Cemetery). The house at the Ostfriedhof is located directly at the ‘transition point for people’, on the border between the cemetery and the city, the cemetery wall. A light-flooded new building as a communicative place of encounter and hospitality.

The facility aims to be an open house for the entire urban community, offering a wide range of services, spaces for mourning, support, conversation and farewells. Inclusive catering, bereavement counselling, funeral services, training and cultural events come together here in a unique architectural setting, inviting people to visit. The light art by Prof. Barbara Fuchs symbolically connects all levels of the building in a central location and is intended to be its heart.

Brand development, corporate identity, visual communication and digital commemoration originated in our office and were developed in close consultation with the client and the artist. The idea, concept and project responsibility were in the hands of Ulrich Keller, consultant for bereavement and trauma pastoral care at the Archiepiscopal Ordinariate. The architectural firm Lehmann, Tabillion & Castorph, Munich, created a building for experiencing community and security, carefully integrated into the overall spatial structure of the ‘Ostfriedhof’ memorial.
