Signage
HFF Munich

Film, light and projection. Staging orientation in space.
We developed the visual communication for the new building of the University of Television and Film. The design responds to the exciting architecture with sloping surfaces, ramps and open spaces, translating its dynamism into a striking signage system.
The foyer, with its adjoining central facilities and spacious ‘sky ladder’, forms a public urban space inside the building. Here, the university logo and the names of the cinemas, lecture halls, library and information centre are applied to concrete and glass façades, visible from afar – projection-like and defining the space. They provide orientation and anchor the identity of the place.

Further into the building, black sign panels take over the task of conveying information. Angled, they are reminiscent of shadows cast around corners and remain legible from the corridors and the central staircase. White-applied information and typography positioned close to the edge create a play of light and shadow. The system is complemented by monitors, light displays, poster showcases and ‘clipboards’ – design elements borrowed in form and function from the world of film and television.
